When you are travelling, whether on business or for pleasure, you often need to stay in a hotel. The kind of hotel you choose probably is decided above all according to how much money you want to spend. There are small hotels with very few services, where the prices are low, or there are large hotels with all the very latest comforts, where you could spend all the money you have in the bank for one very comfortable night.
There are several different kinds of people who go to hotels. Some want to live, rather than just stay, in a hotel; the hotels which are designed to meet their needs are called residential hotels. However, most people who stay in hotels are either business people or tourists on holiday.
In most hotels, there are two kinds of rooms: single rooms, for the use of one person, and double rooms, for the use of two people. Water Safety
To rescue a drowning person,
Don’t jump in to save a drowning person unless you are a trained lifesaver. The victim may pull you under.
Instead, try to toss (抛) a life preserver if you have one. Anything that will float can save the person’s life. A beach ball, a vacuum jug, or a picnic chest will also help. The National Safety Council points out that many drownings could be prevented if people knew all the common objects that float well enough to help a drowning person.
If you are in a boat, or you can find one, use the boat to try to reach the person in trouble. Turn the boat so the victim can grab the stern. Don’t stand up to help the victim. Stay seated so the boat won’t overturn. Try to balance the boat as the person climbs aboard. If the boat overturns, stay hanging on to the side for a while to relax before trying to right it .

Moviegoers may think history is repeating itself this weekend. The summers most anticipated film, Pearl Harbor, which has opened recently, painstakingly recreates the Japanese attack that drew the United States into World War Ⅱ.But that isn’t the films only reminder of the past. Harbor invites comparison to Titanic, the biggest hit of all time. Like Titanic, harbor heaps romance and action around a major historical event. Like Titanic, Harbor attempts to create popular global entertainment from a deadly real life. Like Titanic, Harbor costs a pretty penny and hopes to get in even more at the box office. Both Titanic and Pearl Harbor unseal their tales of love and tragedy over more than three hours. Both stories center on young passion, triangles of tension with one woman and two men: In Titanic, Leonardo DiCaprio and Billy Zane compete for the love of the same woman, a high-society type played by a British actress named Kate (Winslet). In Harbor, two pilots (Ben Affelck, Josh Hartnett) fall for the same woman, a nurse played by a British actress named Kate (Beckinsale). The scenes of peril also have similarities. Harbor has a shot in which soldiers cling for dear life as the battleship USS Oklahoma capsizes. The moment is recalled of the Titanic’s climactic sinking scene in which DiCaprio and Winslet hang from the ocean liner as half of the ship vertically plunges into the water. In Harbor, one of its stars floats atop a piece of debris in the middle of the night, much like Winslet’s character does in Titanic. And the jaw-dropping action of Titanic is matched by Harbor’s 40 minute recreation of Dec.7, 1941 attack on the United States Pacific Fleet. Both films spent heavily on special effects. Harbor director, Michael Bay, for example, says he kept salaries down so more could be spent on the visuals. Both movies event shot their ship-sinking scenes at the same location: Fox Studios Baja in Mexico. Harbor’s makers have even taken a Titanic-like approach to the soundtrack.. The film includes one song. There you’ll be, performed by country music superstar Faith Hill. Titanic, which is one of the best selling soundtracks of all time, also had only one pop song: Celine Dion’s My Heart Will Go On. “If Harbor becomes a major moneymaker, filmmakers may comb history books searching for even more historical romance-action material,” says a critic.
73. What are the two things that the author of this article tries to compare?
A. The attack on Pearl Harbor and the sinking of the Titanic.
B. Historical fiction movies and successful box office hits.
C. The movie Titanic and the on-show movie Pearl Harbor.
D. Sinking boats and famous actors.
74. Pearl Harbor and Titanic are similar in all the following aspects EXCEPT________.
A. both spent large amount of money on special effects
B. both have soundtracks starring a major pop star
C. both added made-up stories to historical events
D. both are documentary movies(纪录片)of historical events
75. If Pearl Harbor is as successful as Titanic, which of the following movies might we see next?
A. The Battle of Waterloo.        B. The Adventures of Mr. Bean.
C. Space Invaders.           D. The Haunted House.

April 5th
Dear Jenny,
Thank you for your letter. Here is how you can do the things easily. After you leave your hotel, walk straight along High Street till you come to a flower shop on the right, where you can buy some flowers. Opposite the flower shop is a fruit shop. There you can get different kinds of fruits. Then turn right and you’ll see Park Street. Walk along the street northward for a while, and you’ll get to the hospital. You can have lunch in a restaurant next to the hospital. Cross Bush Street and you can play tennis in the tennis club. Then go southward along Great Street and you’ll find a teahouse and have some tea there. I’m sure you’ll have no trouble doing these things.
Yours,
Mary

W: Oh, that movie looks sweet. Aren’t there like six big-name actors in it?
M: I don’t know how many. There’s like Julia Roberts, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon. Who else?
W: I don’t know, but it’s definitely the only movie of its kind.
M: Do you know what the story is?
W: I think they’re in Vegas, and a crowd of good-looking young men who are…Are they trying to rob a bank?
M: I think they’re trying to rob a jewelry store. That’s what he was talking about last night, but I, I wasn’t really paying attention so I didn’t understand.
W: Well, I don’t really care. I just want to go and see all those stars on one screen.
M: Hi, Lily. I’ve been wanting to ask you if you have any plans for Chinese National Day.
W: No, not really.
M: Well, I was planning to have a party at my house.
W: Sure I’d like to come. Who are you inviting?
M: Some young teachers from the department and three of you American students. That way you can practice your Chinese, too.
W: That’s a great idea. What can I bring?
M: Let’s see. I’ll prepare everything Chinese, and…
W: Why don’t I make a potato salad? Also, I’ll be seeing Bob and Jane tomorrow. Do you want me to tell them to show up?
M: Well, I should let them know about the party, so they won’t plan anything else.
W: Right. When would you like us to come?
M: About five. I’d like everybody to come early so that you can talk before dinner. Oh, one other thing. Could you ask Bob to bring his records?
W: Sure.
M: Thanks. Bye-bye.
W: Thanks for picking me up this evening, Ted.
M: No problem. Mom. I’m happy to do it. By the way, I had some friends over after school today and we drank all the milk. Shall we stop at the supermarket on the way home to get some?
W: I think it’s closed by this time of night. But we can stop at the convenience store. They’re open 24 hours.
M: Here we are. But I don’t think I’ve ever been here before. Let’s go in.
W: I don’t come here often because the prices here are higher.
M: There isn’t much selection, but that makes choosing easier.
W: Does it? I enjoy comparing so I can get the best bargain for our family. Of course, this time we don’t have much choice, do we?
M: No, I guess not. This is probably the only place open at this time of the night Look at this. Mom. They have hamburgers ready made. All you have to do is to heat it by microwave for thirty seconds.
W: I know that, Ted, but they cost more. You’d better go over to have a look at the magazines. It’ll take your mind off food. I’ll take them to the cash counter.
Good morning. I am Professor Armstrong, and I am your laboratory instructor. This class is intended as a necessary part of the course, which Dr Smith will be in charge of. This class will meet twice a week. This laboratory begins at nine. I expect you to be on time. I do not intend to wait for the latecomers or repeat what has already been covered if you miss the explanation. And do not arrive late and interrupt your neighbor. You may as well not come if you can’t be on time.
Attendance is equally important. If you miss three lab classes, you’re dropped from the labs-no excuses. You can’t complete the course without completing the lab.
Besides, safety is key here. It’s very important to keep things neat and clean, dress properly, and be careful. You may not eat, drink or smoke in the laboratory and you should always clean the counter and wash your hands both before and after the class. Long hair must be tied back. Large clothing must not be worn. Any laboratory accident must be reported immediately.
I hope you’ll enjoy the laboratory. It’s a wonderful place, and all the requirements I’ve just mentioned are to be followed. We will begin today by learning about the microscope.
