Do you find getting up in the morning so difficult that it’s painful? This might be called laziness, but Dr.Kleitman has a new explanation. He has proved that everyone has a daily energy cycle (循环,周期).
During the hours when you labor through your work you may say that you’re“hot”.That’t true. The time of day when you feel most energetic is when your cycle of body temperature is at its peak (顶峰). For some people the peak comes during the forenoon. For others it comes in the afternoon or evening. No one has discovered why this is so,but it leads to such familiar monologues(独白)as:“Get up ,John! You’ll be late for work again!”The possible explanation to the trouble is that John is at his temperature-and-energy peak in the evening.Much family quarreling ends when husbands and wives realize what these energy cycles mean, and which cycle each member of the family has.
You can’t change your energy cycle, but you can learn to make your life better.Habit can help, Dr.Kleitman believes.Maybe you’re sleepy in the evening but feel you must stay up late anyway.Counteract(阻碍)your cycle by habitually staying up later than you want to.If your energy is low in the morning but you have an important job to do early in the day, rise before your usual hour. This won’t change your cycle, but you’ll get up earlier and work better your usual hour. This won’t change your cycle, but you’ll get up earlier and work better at your low point.
Get off to a slow start which saves your energy.Get up with a comfortable yawn (哈欠)and stretch.Sit on the edge of the bed a minute before putting your feet on the floor.Avoid the troublesome search for clean clothes by laying them out the night before.Whenever possible,do such work in the afternoon and save tasks requiring more energy or concentration for your sharper hours.
  67.If a person finds getting up early a problem,most probably _________.
  A.he is a lazy person
B.he refuses to follow his own energy cycle
C.he is not sure when his energy is low
D.he is at his peak in the afternoon or evening
68.Which of the following may lead to family quarrels according to the passage?
  A.Not knowing of energy cycles.
  B.Familiar monologues.
C.Family members have the same energy cycles.
D.Attempts to control the energy cycle of other family members.
69.If one wants to work better or more efficiently at his low point in the morning,he should ____.
A.change his energy cycle    B.overcome his laziness
C.get up earlier than usual   D.go to bed earlier
70.You are advised to rise with a yawn and stretch because it will _______.
A.help to keep your energy for the day’s work
B.help you to keep calm early in the day
  C.enable you to work well
D.keep your energy cycle under control all day
71.Which of the following statements is NOT TRUE?

The Norwegian (挪威) Government is doing its best to keep the oil industry under control.A new law limits exploration to an area south of the southern end of the long coastline: production limits have been laid down (though these have already been raised);and oil companies have not been allowed to employ more than a limited number of foreign workers. But the oil industry has a way of getting over such problems and few people believe that the Government will be able to hold things back for long.As one Norwegian politician said last week:“We will soon be changed beyond all recognition.”Ever since the war,the Government has been carrying out a programme of development in the north of the Arctic Circle.During the past few years this programme has had a great deal of success: Tromso has been built up into a modern city with a university,a large hospital and a healthy industry. But the oil industry has already started to draw people south, and within a few years the whole northern city could be in ruins.
The effects of the oil industry would not be limited to the north, however. With nearly 100 percent employment, everyone can see a situation developing in which the service industries and the tourist industry will lose more of their workers to the oil industry. Some smaller industries might even disappear altogether when it becomes cheaper to buy goods from abroad. The real argument over oil is its effect on the Norwegian way of life.Farmers and fishermen do not make up most of the population, but they are an important part of it because Norwegians see in them much of the character that they regard with pride as real Norwegians. And it is the farmers and the fishermen who are most not in favour of the oil industry because of the damage that it might cause to the countryside and to the sea.
72.Tromso is facing the problem that ______.
A.too many people have left the city for the south
B.its oil industry will endanger the health of its citizens
C.it has no oil resource in the south area
  D.its developing programme has failed
73.From the passage we learned that the Norwegian oil industry is located _______.
  A.mainly in the south
  B.mainly in the north
C.both in the south and north
D.in the area north of the Arctic Circle
74.It is obvious that the development of the oil industry will lead to the close-down of_______.
A.the service industry  B.the tourist industry
C.small industries    D.all of the above
75.According to the passage, which of the following statements is NOT true?
A.The argument over the oil industry is,above all,its effect on the Norwegian way of life.
B.The chances of getting employed in the oil companies are almost 100%.
C.The oil industry is not worried about the government’s control, for it has a way of dealing with the problem.
  D.Norway is an agricultural nation.
