Ben and his wife Susan were on their way to have

Asias bird flu epidemic（传染病）,
which has killed millions of chickens and at least 22 people, is under control（控制）although
the terrible virus（病毒）might stay for months, the head of the
world animal health body（组织）said
on Friday.
Things
now are improving in all infected（感染的）countries,
said Bernard Vallat, head of the Paris-based World Organization for Animal
Health (OIE). The epidemic is very much under control.
Outbreaks（爆发）of
bird flu in Europe and the United States took six months to bring under
control, so Vallat warned Asian countries that the highly dangerous H5N1
birdflu kind probably would be around for months.
To
be sure that the virus is all gone could take at least one year, he said.
It is very difficult to be sure that the pathogen（病原体）is
certainly out of the country.
Thailand
is the worlds fourth largest poultry producer and one of the worst hit
countries. On Tuesday it hoped to be bird flu free by next week,
but on Friday it reported it had fresh outbreaks earlier this month.
