阅读下面短文,按照句子结构的语法性和上下文连贯的要求,在空格处填入一个适当的词或使用括号中词语的正确形式填空,并将答案填写在答题卡标号为31—40的相应位置上。
Opportunities don’t come often . They come every once in a while.
Very often, they come quietly and go by without 31
(notice). Therefore, it is advisable that you value and treat 32
with care. When an opportunity comes, it brings a promise but never
realizes it on its own. .
33 you want to achieve
something or intended to fulfill one of your ambitions, you must work hard,
make efforts and get prepared.
34 , you will take no
advantage of opportunities when they come to visit you . The difference between
a man who succeeds and 35 who does not lies only 36
the way each treats opportunities. The successful person always
makes adequate preparations to meet opportunities as they duly arrive. The 37
(success) person, on the other hand, works 38
and just waits to see them pass by. In my opinion, there are plenty
of opportunities for everyone in our society, 39 only those who are prepared 40
(adequate) and qualified highly can make use of them to achieve
their purpose.
第三部分 阅读(共两节,满分40分)
第一节:阅读理解(共15小题,每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑
(A)
A man may
usually be known by the books he reads as well as by the company he keeps; for
there is a companionship of books as well as of men; and one should always live
in the best company, whether it is of books or of men.
A good book may
be among the best of friends. It is the same today that it always was, and it
will never change. It is the most patient and cheerful of companions. It does
not turn its back upon us in time of adversity or distress. It always receives
us with the same kindness, amusing and instructing us in youth, and comforting
and consoling us in age.
Books possess an
essence of immortality. They are by far the most lasting products of human
effort. Temples and statues decay, but books survive. Time is of no account
with great thoughts, which are as fresh today as when they first passed through
their author’s minds ages ago. What was then said and thought still speaks to
us as vividly as ever from the printed page. The only effect of time has been
to sift out the bad products; for nothing in literature can long survive but
what is really good.
Books
introduce us into the best society; they bring us into the presence of the
greatest minds that have ever lived. We hear what
they said and did; we see them as if they were really alive; we sympathize with
them, enjoy with them, grieve with them; their experience becomes ours, and we
feel as if we were, in a measure, actors with them in the scenes which they
describe.
The great and
good do not die even in this world.Embalmed in
books, their spirits walk abroad. The book is a
living voice. It is an intellect to which one still listens. Hence we ever
remain under the influence of the great men of old.The
imperial intellects of the world are as much alive now as they were ages ago.

of the following is not the reason why a book is the best of friends?
A.That

it goes away from us in time of adversity or distress.

are bad products.

may usually be known by _________
A.the
books he reads B.his
adversity
C.the

44.Why
don’t the great and good die even in the world?
A.Because
they can have a longer life span.
B.Because

they are statues

45.By
writing the passage, the author wants to tell us ________

My son and
I were trying to sell the house we had repaired but in the barn(谷仓)there were bats(蝙蝠)and they would not
leave. The barn was
their home. They told us so in their own way. They hung there in the barn and
seemed determined to stay for the season. Dont worry about it, Dad,
Patrick said. They keep down the mosquitoes(蚊子).”
Unfortunately they also kept the
buyers away. when we had asked a person to sell the
house for us he had refused to show it because of the bats. Bats are popular,
Patrick comforted me. Theyre ecological(生态学的).Isnt
there a machine you can buy that produces high-frequency sounds to keep bats
away?” I dont know,” said Patrick. But I like bats, and whoever buys this
house will probably like them too. “Probably?” I hated that word. How
many bats are there ,anyway? I counted
about 90 last night, said Patrick. They were dropping out from under the
edge of the roof. You mean there are more-outside? Theyre
everywhere, Dad. But look at it this way. When the cold weather comes, they’ll
be off to Mexico. Maybe in the spring we can keep them out. Dont worry about
it,” he said for the hundredth time. Its not a problem.
The bat expert I called was even
more active than Patrick. I think youve got a large number there,” he said in
wonder, I’ve been trying to attract bats to our house for 25 years A single bat eats up his weight in
mosquitoes and black flies three times every night. Youre a very lucky man.” I
offered to share my luck with him. He could take them away. Bats have a
remarkable homing instinct(本能),he
said. Theyd fly straight back even if I transported them 100 miles. Once they
have settled, you cant stop them from coming back. I was silent.
Finally we managed to rent “(出租)the house to a young family, who were also
interested in buying it. What about the bats? I said to Patrick.
Oh, they love the bats,” he said.
No mosquitoes. No black flies. Its one of the things that attracted
them. Do you think they will really buy the house? Probably.
Probably? Well,if they do ,I suppose Ill have to admit that I was wrong.

the expert.

house.
B. The author failed to find
anybody who wanted to live in the house.

about the bats actions.

Not all memories are sweet. Some
people spend all their lives trying to forget bad experiences . Violence and
traffic accidents can leave people with terrible physical and emotional scars .
Often they relive (重新体验) these experiences in nightmares
.
Now American researchers think
they are close to developing a pill , which will help people forget bad
memories . The pill is designed to be taken immediately after a frightening
experience . They hope it might reduce , or possible erase (抹去) the effect of painful memories .
In November , experts tested a
drug on people in the US and France. The drug stops the body releasing
chemicals that fix memories in the brain . So far the research has suggested
that only the emotional effects of memories may be reduced , not that the
memories are eased .
The research has caused a great
deal of argument . Some think it is a bad idea , while others support it
. Supporters say it could lead to pills that prevent or treat soldiers’ troubling
memories after war .
They say that
there are many people who suffer from terrible memories . “Some memories can
ruin people’s lives . They come back to you when you don’t want to have them in
a daydream or nightmare . They usually come with very painful emotions ,” said
Roger Pitman , a professor of psychiatry (精神病学) at Harvard Medical School.
“This could relieve a lot of that suffering .”
But those who are
against the research say that changing memories is very dangerous because
memories give us our identity (物质). They also help us all
avoid the mistakes of the past . “All of us can think of bad events in our
lives that were horrible at the time but make us who we are . I’m not sure we’d
want to wipe those memories out.” said Rebecca Dresser , a medical ethicist (伦理学家).
Some people fear
that although the drug would first be used in only very serious cases , it
would become more and more common . “People always have the ability to misuse
science,” said Joeph LeDoux, a New York University memory researcher . “All we
want to do is help people have better control of memories .”
51.What’s the main
idea of the text ?
A.People often
suffer from bad memories .
B.American
researchers are trying to develop a pill .
C.Forget bad
memories , and be happy .
D.The research has
cause a heated argument .
52.The underlined
word “it” in paragraph 4 refers to “ ”.
A.the new drug B.the research into
the drug
C.the memory D.the chemical in
the drug
53.Which of the
following is not the opinion of the supporters ?
A.The pill can
erase all the memories in the past
B.Some memories can
ruin people’s lives. The pill can relieve emotional suffering .
C.The pill can also
help many other types of people who suffer from terrible memories .
D.The pill can also
prevent or treat troubling memories in soldiers after war
54.Which of the
following is not the opinion of the opponents (反对者)?
A.Our memories give
us our identity .
B.The memories help
humanity avoid mistake of the past .
C.The drug should
be used in only very serious cases .
D.People may not be
sure whether they want to wipe the memories out .
55.It could be
inferred from the passage that .
A.the pill has been
developed and will be more and more common
B.the pill has
helped soldiers forget bad experiences during the war .
C.The pill is being
tested on some people by some researchers .
D.The
pill will be forbidden because people have different opinions

Honesty Is Gold
Honesty
means speaking the truth and being fair and upright in act。
He who lies and cheats is dishonest. Those who gain fortunes not by hard labour
but by other means are dishonest.
Honesty
is a good virtue. If you are honest all the time, you’ll be trusted and
respected by others. A liar is always looked down upon and regarded as a black
sheep by the people around. Once you lie, people will never believe you even if
you speak the truth. However, in the title of commodity economy today, it seems
that more and more people believe in money at the sacrifice of honesty. To
them, among such things as health, beauty, money, intelligence , honesty,
reputation and talent, honesty is the only thing that can be cast away. They
don’t understand or pretend not to understand that honesty is the biggest
fortune humans own, and that it is the prerequisite for doing everything well.
I think these people are to be pitied.
In
short , honesty is gold. Honest, your reputation will become great; dishonest,

Dear
editor,
I am a middle school student. I
often see some people spitting in the street. I think its a bad habit to spit
on the ground. As we all know, spitting carries and spreads diseases, pollutes
our environment and does harm to our health. Our government should take some
measures to protect the environment. If someone spits in a public place, he or
she will be fined heavily and educated. For my part, our city will become more
beautiful if all the people care about the environment.

The

our life.
Everyone should be honest because honesty
pays in the long run. For one thing, honesty is a traditional virtue of
Chinese. Behaving yourself in a honest way can win respect from others. For
another, being honest in an essential step towards our spiritual civilization.
As a student, we should try to keep honest in the very beginning. We should
study hard and never cheat in exams. What’s more, we should treat each other
honestly. Only in this way, can we win respect from our teachers and
classmates.
